Abstract Text:
We present implementations of spectral deferred correction (SDC) methods for computing approximate solutions to differential equations. Our goal is to minimize expensive operator evaluations while still resolving fine-structure detail at reasonable timesteps. SDC converges rapidly for simple problems using several starting methods, including first order Euler methods. We show the performance of SDC for solutions for nonlinear, coupled ODEs, using the Lorenz model of chaos. Additional solutions of stiff multi-frequency waves are shown. An analysis of operator splitting error results is also presented. Near-term work focuses on applying these methods to complex multidimensional differential equations by mapping SDC to the plasma simulation code GX and expanding SDC to include multi-level methods.
