The gyrokientic MHD equations associated with the gyrokinetic electromagnetic Vlasov-Maxwell sys- tem [1] consist of the vorticity equation and the parallel Ohm’s law, where current the parallel current is given by the Amperes’ law and the ion perpendicular pressure balance is modified by the finite-Larmor-radius (FLR) effects [1]. The modification of the poloidal current, J⊥ is the result of the radial electric field of the form [2,3],

enE =(1/2)∇⊥pi.

If the ion pressure gradient

∇pi ≈ 0

or

pi ∝ exp[−sqrt(2) r/ρi],

the poloidal current, J⊥, vanishes and we reach a force-free steady state with shear Alfven waves as normal modes. The relationship between the H-mode in tokamak plasmas and the force free state will be discussed.
