Abstract Text:
In this work, we investigate the effect of shear on the stabilization of the interchange instability. Previous linear calculations have been done before through Braginskii MHD (A.B. Hassam et al.) which demonstrated that there has been effective stabilization of interchanges of long perpendicular wavelength. We would like to extend the calculation by utilizing the framework of gyrokinetics to obtain a result that is applicable for all orders of the perpendicular wavelength.

Moreover, a previous study investigating ion temperate gradient (ITG) and parallel velocity gradient (PVG) instabilities demonstrated that even in the absence of unstable eigenmodes, transient amplification can still occur, resulting in stable modes being amplified transiently and causing unwanted turbulence (A.A. Schekochihin et al.). We seek to extend the methods used in this time-dependent study in our calculations to explore further. Eventually, we intend to compare the result of this with known gyrokinetic codes.
