Abstract Text:
The fluid response to resonant magnetic perturbations (RMP) in KSTAR inner wall limited L-mode discharges is calculated using both NIMROD and M3D-C1. In the experiment, the in-vessel control coils (IVCC) are used to apply a predominantly n=1 magnetic perturbation. The currents in the IVCC coils are linearly ramped in time, and ECEI measurements provide experimental measurements of the resulting 2/1 island in both strongly screened and fully penetrated states. Single fluid n=1 responses calculations are performed at multiple time slices using both NIMROD and M3D-C1. The calculated response is compared between both codes, and the resulting 2/1 island width is compared with measurements of the island width inferred from ECEI measurements. In addition to the n=1 perturbation, the IVCC also introduces modest n=3 and higher-n perturbations. The linear response to these higher-n perturbations and their impact on the 2/1 island width is calculated. Initial two-fluid calculations and plans for nonlinear response calculations are discussed.
