Abstract Text:
New tridimensional and oscillatory plasma structures, that may be classified as non-separable ballooning modes, can be excited in inhomogeneous plasmas and undergo characteristic mode particle resonant interactions that make the mode amplitude a non separable function of both time and space. The relevant resonance conditions are intrinsically different from those involving well known plasma waves as they affect different regions of the particle distribution in momentum space at different positions in configuration space. An efficient process for the transfer of energy, through the excitation of modes of this kind, among different particle populations is identified.
