Abstract Text:
Type One Energy is developing a high field, optimized stellarator as a direct path to commercial fusion energy. Infinity Two is a fusion pilot plant (FPP) baseline physics design. Engineering analysis has shown Infinity Two is consistent with a set of buildable coils, an island divertor solution, required shielding, and a blanket with sufficient tritium breeding ratio. Infinity Two is a three field-period quasi-isodynamic stellarator, optimized using state-of-the-art physics metrics and techniques, designed to operate at high plasma density and high magnetic field in steady state. We will focus on discussing the physics properties that make Infinity Two a suitable FPP candidate, namely its reduced neoclassical and turbulent transport, small bootstrap current, low alpha-particle losses to the first wall, magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) stability, and an attainable operating point with high fusion gain.
